Tinjauan Bimbingan dan Konseling di Sekolah Dasar (Amerika Serikat)

I.         INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Helping students meet the following ASCA Standards: 
A.    Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span.
  
B.    Students will complete school with the academic prep. essential to choose from a wide range of substantial post-secondary options, including college.

C.     Students will understand the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community.

Helping students meet the following ASCA Standards: 
A.    Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions.
B.    Students will employ strategies to achieve future career goals with success and satisfaction.
C.    Students will understand the relationship between personal qualities, education, training and the world of work.

Helping students meet the following ASCA Standards: 
A.    Students will acquire the knowledge, attitudes and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others.
B.    Students will make decisions, set goals and take necessary action to achieve goals.
C.    Students will understand safety and survival skills.

II.       SMALL GROUP COUNSELING
Small group sessions to help students learn how to identify and appropriately express their anger
Providing students with the tools they need to overcome their anxious feelings.
Helping students cope with their parents' divorce.
Small group sessions to help students with their grief.

III.      CLASSROOM COUNSELING
Lessons for challenging upper grades or classrooms.
Ways to introduce/re-introduce yourself to your students.
Lessons that focus on respect and bullying prevention.
Helping students plan for their futures.
In my school district, we have a specific core value for each month. I offer classroom lessons to address these areas of character education.
Lessons for when kids say: "That's not fair!" 
Focusing on the importance of both giving and following directions.
Lessons for gifted education classrooms.
Helping students understand how to positively identify and express their feelings.
Lessons that reflect on the qualities of good friends
Discussing the positive behaviors that lead to school success.
Focusing on the effects of both high and low self-esteem.
Helping students understand the difference between big problems and small problems.
Activities to tame test anxiety

V.      SCHOOL WIDE PROGRAMS
Tim is a puppet I use to reinforce positive school behaviors. Tim catches students being good in the hallway, classroom, and MORE
Displaying important school counseling content on a school-wide scale.
A week to promote a positive school climate.
In my school district, we have a specific core value for each month. To coincide with this character education schedule, I create an interactive core value bulletin each month for students to utilize.
Students write letters to our school puppet, Tim, to help him solve his problems.
Good Behavior Competition
Target behavior concerns by encouraging friendly grade level competition.
Each month I provide my school staff with a newsletter that highlights various resources, events, and positive school news.
A week to promote a positive school climate.
Professional development inspired by Pinterest.
One week to highlight and acknowledge acts of kindness at our school.
Red Ribbon Week is an important part of my school district. We plan many events and initiatives around RRW.

Ways to highlight positive student behaviors
6th grade students can apply to be a member of this club. Members are assigned an age group (K-2 or 3-6) and must plan ways to help those student groups feel special at our school. 2013 Promising Practice.
